Market Street to Baker Park
Kris Kringle is coming to town on Friday, December 4th, as the star of this year's Kris Kringle Procession. Presented by Celebrate Frederick and The Holiday Committee the event begins at 6:30 p.m. on East Street in Frederick and ends with the lighting of the City tree in Baker Park.
The procession mirrors the small town charm that makes Frederick so special during the holidays. Local children dressed as reindeer, snowflakes, angels, elves, and gifts will accompany costumed characters, some modern, some traditional, through Frederick's downtown streets. The parade route goes from East Street to East Patrick Street, turns onto N. Market Street, and then turns onto West Second Street, ending at Baker Park. Nearly all of the streets are illuminated by thousands of tiny white lights.
Several of the procession's characters reflect Frederick's German heritage, including Pelsnickle and Weinacht Man, who help Kris Kringle judge whether children have been bad or good. Krist Kindle is an angel-like messenger who leaves gifts for good children in small baskets. The procession also includes several modern characters, such as Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
After the procession all are invited to head to Baker Park for a holiday inspired program and Carillon concert. City of Frederick Mayor and procession characters will be on hand for lighting the Baker Park tree. Enjoy the bells of the Joseph Dill Baker Memorial Carillon played by City of Frederick Carilloneur, John Widmann. John will be on hand for as the musician and tour guide of this historic Frederick site.
