Festival of Lights presented by Friends Meeting School
December 16 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm| Free
The Festival of Lights presented by Friends Meeting School will showcase the musical talents of the Frederick Children’s Chorus Touring Ensemble under the direction of Artistic Director and founder, Judy DuBose. The chorus will perform two songs, Here We Come A’ Caroling and S’Vivon, and will lead the audience in a sing-along of classic carols.
This year’s program will also feature guest speaker, Annette Breiling. After founding two separate, thriving schools devoted to the causes of Service and Justice, Annette Breiling retired in 2011 and continues to serve Frederick County through many channels, including the Homeless Coalition, the Immigration Coalition, the Peace & Justice Network and the Student Peace Awards. Annette will deliver an message inspired by the Dr. Martin Luther King quote, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
The evening will come to an end with a moving candle lighting ceremony, presided over by Mayor Randy McClement. Mayor McClement will light the first candle as the lights are dimmed, and candles will be passed from neighbor to neighbor, until the crowd is filled with light.
In the event of weather, the program will be moved indoors just across the street to All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church Street.
