DESCRIPTION:For more than two decades\, hundreds of garden enthusiasts have descended upon Downtown Frederick for the chance to explore the elegant\, whimsical and inventive gardens nestled behind the gates of private Frederick homes each spring. \nA favorite of residents and visitors alike\, the Beyond the Garden Gates Garden Tour continues to grow in size and attendance. The annual tour has grown to draw over 800 visitors annually and has raised thousands of dollars for local garden clubs and multiple beautification projects around Frederick. \nIn addition to the the stunning landscapes\, visitors are also treated to a variety of discounts from downtown Frederick retailers and restauranteurs\, as well as a Hospitality Center sponsored by ACNB Bank where guests are invited to refresh themselves during the tour. \nThis year\, Celebrate Frederick is pleased to be working with the The Garden Club of Frederick. \nTickets are $25 in advance and $30 on tour days.

DESCRIPTION:The Great Frederick Scavenger Hunt Halloween Edition kicks off Saturday\, October 24th and continues through Saturday\, October 31st.  Round two of the Great Frederick Scavenger Hunt challenges teams to put the ghosts of Frederick to rest by solving 100 clues that take them to spooky locations throughout Frederick County.  The team that scores the most points will win a prize pack courtesy of participating businesses.  This hunt is a multi-day\, socially distanced event presented in partnership with Surelocked In Escape Games and The City of Frederick 275th Anniversary Committee. \nTickets are $5.00 per person\, or $20.00 for a team of five\, and can be purchased now through October 31st at https://www.surelockedin.com/book-now.html.  One dollar from each ticket sold will benefit the Frederick Community Action Agency.  The FCAA is committed to serving low-income residents through a variety of programs including a food pantry\, daily soup kitchen\, home food delivery to local seniors and operation of a health center.  Participants are eligible to purchase City of Frederick 275th Anniversary merchandise during check out at a special\, Great Frederick Scavenger Hunt\, rate. \nGroups may register in groups of five or less.  Masks are required when entering a business\, or when maintaining social distance of six feet is not possible.  Please note that business hours and store capacity vary among participating locations.  Teams should plan ahead to ensure that businesses and sites are open prior to visiting them. \n  \n \n  \n

A retired FCPS teacher and longtime resident of Frederick\, Janet enjoys painting with watercolor and teaching watercolor painting part time at the Delaplaine Art Center. \nSheryl Massaro\nWatch Sheryl paint at 15 N. Market Street\nSheryl is an oil painter\, poet\, and photographer based in historic Frederick\, MD\, where she is active in several arts organizations. Sheryl’s oils and photography have been exhibited in many galleries and museums nationally\, and are in several private collections. Her work\, though often based on the recognizable\, shares a deeper\, “off to the side” look at life than the purely representational. In 2018\, she became a Resident Artist at Frederick’s Griffin Art Center\, where she works from her Art & Pen Studio. Sheryl’s visual art is represented by DISTRICT Arts\, 15 N. Market Street\, Frederick\, MD. \nMatthew Mitchell\nWatch Matthew paint at 203 N. Market Street\nMatthew has been a Frederick local since 2012.  He enjoys the challenge of plein air painting\, and loves making large interesting paintings in studio. \nAnn Schaefer\nWatch Ann paint at 242 N. Market Street\nAnn has been showing her art in downtown Frederick’s Gallery 322 for 11 years. Primarily an outdoor painter\, she finds inspiration in the cityscapes and landscapes of Maryland. She participates in organized plein air events and group exhibits\, where she often wins awards. \nTom Semmes\nWatch Tom paint at 217 N. Market Street\nTom began painting in his teens\, inspired by the forests and fields of his childhood Potomac\, MD\, home\, and by the works of impressionist and post-impressionist artists on view in local museums. His art combines the study of the observable world\, and the memory and feelings of places that have inspired him. He paints in oil with a rich application of color and expressive brush strokes. As one collector said\, his work can best be described as “like (Edward) Hopper but happy!” \nVisitors are reminded to enjoy the artwork safely by practicing social distancing\, and by wearing a mask when social distancing is not possible!

Dunk a Frederick celebrity or take in the Volleyball Tournament – there is a little something for everyone. \nPick a seat early\, because the park fills up quickly for Frederick’s one and only fireworks show at dusk.  Great seats can be found surrounding the swimming pool on Fleming Avenue\, on the Frederick High School lawn and now in the entire Carillon area of Baker Park.
