The Beyond the Garden Gates Garden Tour has been postponed to Saturday, June 13th & Sunday, June 14th, 1 – 5 PM!

The Men’s Garden Club of Frederick

Members of the Men’s Garden Club of Frederick are pleased and proud to work with Celebrate Frederick to provide individuals with the opportunity to explore some of the most beautiful gardens in Maryland by acting as this year’s tour partner for the Beyond the Garden Gates tour! We are particularly grateful to the homeowners who have allowed us all the privilege of closely admiring these living works of art and for the opportunity to learn how to improve our own gardening efforts.

The Men’s Garden Club (MGC) was founded in 1992. Membership is comprised of as many as 35 full time members and 10 associate members.

The purposes of the MGC are to:

  • Stimulate among our membership the joy of gardening;
  • Encourage the protection of native plants and birds;
  • Increase our knowledge of horticulture and plants;
  • Encourage the development and landscaping of our outdoor gardens for the benefit of our families, neighbors and friends, and
  • Share our knowledge and experience with other gardeners in helping them to develop their own outdoor gardens and outside living areas.

The MGC meets monthly, with most meetings including an educational component. Usually, a guest speaker is invited to address club members about best practices related to optimizing gardens in Frederick County, about the necessity for knowledge of and current thinking about environmental issues that are being impacted by our gardening efforts or other topics of interest.

The club membership is also involved in a number of civic activities, such as our proud support of Color on the Creek, a project initiated and managed by one of our members. The MGC members help to maintain the beauty of the rose garden at the Delaplaine Arts Center, contribute labor to the Arts Festival, and support such worthy projects as Flowers Over Frederick, Friends of Baker Park, and Sophie and Madigan’s Playground.

The revenue we receive from hosting the Beyond the Garden Gates tour this year will be continue to be applied to these or other similar projects mentioned above. Thank you for your generous support of the 2020 Beyond the Garden Gates tour!
